Sir Ranulph Fiennes is without question the worlds greatest living explorer, having been the first person to visit both the North and South Poles by ‘surface means’ and the first to completely cross Antarctica on foot. He has endured hardships few people could stand, driven his body further than most could imagine and lived more than most could dream of. ‘Sir Ran’ is also a prolific and passionate writer.
My Definition Of Success | Success means writing a book that sells well and that the readers enjoy.
What Drives Me | My inner soul is never happy doing everyday activities unless there is some big goal in the foreseeable future that I’m working towards.
My Highlights | The highlights of my life have been my happy marriage to a wonderful person, my late wife, for 38 years. And being lucky enough to marry another great person and have a second lovely family.
The Difference Between good And Great | Doggedness. Cultivate it by making a hard goal. Doing your utmost to achieve it. Learn by errors. Then set another target. And so on until you are really stubborn!
Values I Live By | I believe that the values of honesty and kindness are the key qualities to aim for.
My Critical Skills | Any success I may have achieved is probably due to being patient, dogged and meticulous. These are, in my mind, classable as ‘critical skills’.
Dealing With Doubt | I climbed the Eiger North Face when scared stiff of it. I was even more scared of looking a coward if I dropped out once the climb began. I kept trying to concentrate on anything but the source of the fear (the drop below).
My Future Ambitions | I’d like to ski across Antarctica in winter.
