What does success mean to you? Has your definition of it changed over the years and if so, why? | When I was beginning my career my definition of success was to achieve certain levels of fame, notoriety, and wealth. These things are still important in their own right, but in no way make up success for my mind now. At this point, success for me is in the honor and integrity of my life’s choices, the trust others have in my ability to work and over-deliver on promises, and mostly are all centered around home, family, my wife and children as people, and my faith.
What is your LIFE-MISSION in one sentence? | To Create and Spread Joy & Inspiration the Entire Family will Receive Together.
What is one talent or strength of yours, which has been critical to your success? | My drive. An insatiable desire to get things done, and to accomplish something of value for others to enjoy.
When you get / got STUCK, what caused it and how did you get going again? | At the moment of this interview, my entire career is seemingly on hold. The Pandemic of COVID-19 has created an unemployment restriction on my ability to do my job as a Speaker who gets in front of people in large gatherings and moves them emotionally, intellectually, and energetically. All of my events are literally canceled or rescheduled until further notice. That is either a problem that can’t be solved and we have to wait it out, or that is the greatest opportunity in the world to do something totally amazing and brand new. I choose the latter. When it’s out of my hands as to how my work can be purchased I am going to give the audience a new way to receive it. We are now offering events, speeches, entertainment, courses, training, from our Virtual Home Studio, with many more iterations of this to come. This may be our finest hour! And this a full family effort.
What are you most afraid of right now? | This is an easy one: I’m most afraid of how to provide for my family. Not if I can or can’t, but rather, how. This means: I have never had a “real job”. I have always lived the dreams I have created and others have helped me achieve, such as a career performing, speaking, entertaining others, so I’ve never felt it was a “job”. I know I can very easily go and pick up a shovel and work 12 hour days in order to provide, although I’m not sure how much I’ll enjoy it, I will do what must be done to put food on the table. But as afraid as I am of hoping I can continue to create any semblance of the lifestyle we have enjoyed as a family over the past 2 decades I know this for sure – I’m working as if everything will work out. I am not giving up on the dream to live the “how”. I am seeing peers online calling it quits and going and getting the secure employment. I applaud them. At the same time I am working as if this will all work out for me. But I am afraid. And in facing that fear I have hope, with a divine sense of purpose. I am working as if it’s all up to me, while believing God above will provide in our hour of need.
What do you want to achieve next and what’s in the way? | My eBook, “The Promise To The One”, launched on May 13, 2020. That was pushed up, due to the quarantine, from the original release scheduled for mid-August. Writing the book changed my life and way of thinking. It took years for me to get it out – because I was afraid of what people might think once they read it. I was in my own way. Now I will be writing a book per year moving forward, as this is just the beginning of The Promise series. The only thing in the way is my own doubts and fears if the first one doesn’t sell well. But even at that, I am moving forward. And actually the only thing in the way now is the release dates publishers and the markets set because if there were no limits I may release a book every quarter!

What resources (people, books, environments, movies, music etc) do you use to keep yourself inspired, informed and growing? | The most powerful for me would be a daily mix of things: I Journal as if it’s going out of style; I read books by peers (self-help, business, inspiration) weekly and their recommendations to me; I subscribe to Outdoor and Backpacking magazines only; I read every morning and throughout the day from holy Scripture, be it the Holy Bible or The Book of Mormon or other writings by prophets; I listen to music that is everything from New Age piano, to Zen & Yoga meditation, to The Beatles and Bossanova or Jazz; I read the news daily for about 3 minutes to make sure I know what’s going on; I look at social media enough to post daily and support my friends but in pockets of consumption never mindlessly scrolling; movies include: Documentaries of historical figures (daVinci, Lincoln, educational); movies that keep me inspired to live life fully: Big Fish, About Time, Cinderella Man. I have a very small circle of close friends but a wide ocean of peers whom I consider friends as family, and we all help one another to succeed and stay up!
Who inspires you and who are your role-models? | My wife, Tami, is my inspiration beyond anyone else. She understands the secret of living a beautiful life and I am just trying to keep up! Then my children, we have 4 between the ages of 14-8. These are the greatest human beings I’ve ever met. I can’t believe we get to have our lives play out together. I have heroes I look up to such as Jesus Christ, Abraham and Moses, Helen Keller and the mothers who braved the Depression and Dust Bowl in American history. Modern day role models are my peers in my speaking business, neighbors who know how to fix and create things manually that I can’t figure out, educators for our children, and of course my own parents and siblings who inspire me to live out what I always hoped I would. I am surrounded by role models and inspiring people, but in my eyes, every person who breathes has much to give, so much we can learn of them, and it is our responsibility to help them identify, clarify, and magnify their unique Signature Moves so they too can fulfill and live The Promise.
