Llewellyn Devereaux

Llewellyn had an idea in 2012 to invent the world’s first premium anti-hangover shooter – Lohocla (alcohol backwards)), a product to help alleviate the symptoms of a hangover so that responsible people could still function after nights out. It took him several years to develop the product which is now nationwide at liquor stores and is now about to be exported globally.

As a result of the products’ success, Llewellyn was named one of the top 40 under 40 Entrepreneurs in Africa by African Independent Magazine in 2018, he has given many talks and eventually started his own seminars in partnership with Tsogo Sun where he teaches his philosophy “The Mastery Code” that teaches Self-Mastery, Money-mastery and purpose to individuals and businesses about how they can go on the offensive instead of being stuck in defense mode. This led him to write the much-anticipated book that teaches his philosophy of life. He has spoken on multiple stages at conferences and TED talks.

His mission is connected to growing the wealth and productivity of the 3rd world, also tackling unemployment where he wants to liberate the mental barriers and blocks in individuals that has come as a result of past programming thereafter. His plan is to send Africa into the new dimension.

What does success mean to you? Has your definition of it changed over the years and if so, why? | Success means living life in my OWN way. Regardless of how that may go down, as long as i’m making my own choices that is what success means to me. And it hasn’t changed over the years, I can now define it easier. Freedom was always my highest ideal.

What drives you? | The desire for freedom and to contribute to something greater than myself in order that I can pour my life out, use and maximise ALL the gifts I was given, and die empty having made the world (close and far) better than how I found it.

Where do you think your ‘MAGIC’ comes from? | My excitement and optimism for living. I believe that I’m larger than life.

What do you think is often the difference between people who are good at what they do and people who are great at what they do? | The difference is always authenticity. You’re only effective when you’re authentic and that is it. Not everyone operates in their authenticity because that requires sacrificing what is comfortable and this makes the difference between good and great. The enemy of “great” is never anything bad as most people would assume, but the enemy of great is something good or just as good.

What has been your biggest failure / learning experience? | Thinking that I could do everything all at once. I learnt that you have to do things in small chunks, you aren’t invincible.

What is one talent or strength of yours, which has been critical to your success? | I am an effective communicator and when I mix that with my exuberant nature, I have been told that I light up every room I walk into. So I guess it has to be my energy and how I project it.

When you get / got STUCK, what caused it and how did you get going again? | I am forced to pause and keep telling myself that it is only temporary and I trust myself to find a solution.

What is your biggest weakness? | At times I can be impatient and I have a large risk appetite, sometimes to my own detriment.

What are the most important lessons you have learnt so far, in your career or life journey? This could be anything from very simple small lessons to much larger bigger lessons. | Things take time, and it is better to let them take time, rather than to rush. There’s no need to rush, you will get there.

How do you deal with self-doubt, fear or negativity? Can you share a time in which you either doubted yourself the most or had great fears, yet faced up to them and conquered them? | Fear is something that never goes away. Whenever you do anything new, you are always going to be afraid and doubt your moves. I just know that there’s a difference between fear and danger; danger is very real, but fear is all in my mind but I allow it to indicate to me what I must do next based on me being scared to do it.

What are you most afraid of right now? | Not being everything I know I am destined to be and letting people especially myself down.

How do you ensure you are always feeling energised and performing at your peak? | I workout 4 times a week and make sure I am active as much as I can and I plan on taking more breaks this year.

What resources (people, books, environments, movies, music etc) do you use to keep yourself inspired, informed and growing? | Books, Youtube and articles. Great movies are also a great learning zone.

What is the best advice you have ever received? |  “Everything you want will happen for you, just not in your timeline.”

What’s one deeply honest thing that most people don’t know about you? | I care deeply and am extremely protective of people and their dreams.

Would you consider yourself a happy person? If so, how do you cultivate your daily happiness? | I am indeed a happy person. I have cultivated this by making my own choices in life versus settling for what I was given. You’re either going to be at war with yourself and at peace with the world or you’re going to be at peace with yourself and at war with the world. You must choose this early on, I cultivate my happiness by choosing me and never betraying myself.
